In response to a press question about the article by Abdülkadir Selvi writing for (Islamist paper) Yeni Şafak  that Israel was sending a “rich Jewish businessman” to act as a mediator for Turkish and Israeli relations, here’s a conversation that apparently happened between PM Erdoğan and a journalist:

In response to the question “Is the Rich Jew Murdoch?”, he replied “No, dear, it’s not Murdoch”.

 

Rupert Murdoch was born to English parents. His father’s father were Christian preachers and he has made statements to the press that he is Christian. Asking if Murdoch is a rich Jew to be sent by İsrael is part of the myth that Jews control the media.

However, because being Jewish is not a bad thing, this would not be bad either, even if it was true)

Sabah – Jews control the price of oil/ Yahudiler petrol fiyatını kontrol ediyor

Unbelievable, ignorant conspiracy theories published in today’s Sabah not only blame Jews for changes in the price of gasoline, but also hint that supporting Jewish children makes you evil.

Bugünki Sabah gazetesinde yayınlanan inanılmaz cahil komplo teorileri, petrol fiyatlarındaki değişikliklerden Yahudiler suçlanıyor ve Yahudi olarak doğmanın suç olduğu iddia ediyor.

“Iki ayda yüzde 30 artış ve düşüşle rekor dalgalanmalara sahne olan petrol fiyatlarının bu hareketinin arkasındaki sis perdesi aralanıyor. Benzinin litresinin 4.5 liraya dayanmasına sebep olan bu aşırı hareketliliğin altındaki manipülasyon G-20 liderlerinin de desteğiyle ortaya çıktı. İşin ilginç tarafı petroldeki yolsuzluğun da arkasında İran, Suriye, Kuzey Kore’nin paralarını aklayıp, Meksika’daki uyuşturucu kaçakçılarına yardım eden, El Kaide’ye para aktaran ve Libor faizini manipüle edip tüm dünyayı soyan bir gurup işadamı çıktı. “Over two months, the price of oil has fluctuated by record variations of 30 percent increases and decreases, and people are trying to unveil the mystery that lies behind the smoke screen of this mystery. It has emerged that the manipulation behind the excessive action that has caused the price of gas to reach 4.5 liras is due to the support of G-20 leaders. The interesting part of all this business, behind Iran, Syria, money laundering in North Korea, support drug smugglers in Mexico, transferring money to Al Qaeda, and manipulating the interest rates of LIBOR [the London interbank offered rate] is one group of businessmen who are robbing the whole world.

The majority of these businessmen are Jews [the word used here is Musevi, denoting specifically those following the religion of Judaism], or those who are close to the International Jewish Lobby, formed by a section who are close to a section of Republicans in the USA known as Neocons. The international companies belonging to these businessmen are responsible for the excessive variation in the price of oil, and are guilty of robbing countries and their peoples.”

The piece goes on to accuse John C. Bogle, founder of the investement Vanguard Group of having attended a meeting of an organisation that supports Jewish children, as if supporting children — at least Jewish ones — were a crime:

There is no Jewish Lobby. Not in America, not in the world. Petrol prices are determined by world markets, and if there is any group that can affect the price, it is OPEC, composed of many Christians and Muslims, but no Jews. Jewish children are not inherently evil for being Jewish, and supporting them is not a crime.

Bir ‘Yahudi Lobisi’ yoktur. Amerika’da yok, dünya’da yok. Petrol fiyatları dünya piyasada belirtilir. Etkile yapabılen bir grup varsa, Hristiyan ve Müsülman oluştuğu OPEC. Yahudi çocuklar Yahudi olduğunu için kötü değil. Onlar desteklenmesi da suç değil.

Interview with Corry Guttstadt about anti-semitism in Turkey/Corry Guttstadt ile Turkiyedeki anti-semitizm’e hakkinda bir repörtaj

“Çağdaş anti-Semitizm, Yahudileri modernitenin bütün olumsuzluklarından sorumlu tutuyor: Kapitalizmin olumsuz yanlarından, modern yaşamın karmakarışık olması ve insanların yabancılaşmasına kadar birçok boyuttan sorumlu olanlar Yahudilerdir suçlaması getiriliyor. Modern anti-semitism holds Jews responsible for all the failures of modernity: everything wrong with capitalism, the confusion of modern life, and the alienation of people are all dimensions of the crime that people hold Jews responsible for. Another area to pay attention to is this: The racist anti-semitism found in Europe came about when Jews were assimilated into the population, that is, when it became difficult to to recognise that someone was a minority within the general population. For an anti-semite, a Jew who cannot be recognized as a Jew is the most dangerous Jew. In my opinion, in Turkey, this fed from opposition to the Dönme, and the unbelievably widespread Dönme-phobia is a striking example of this.

From the political right to the left, and from Islamists to nationalists, it’s possible to give numerous examples [of anti-semitism]. The most horrifying example of this is a protest where the protestors were holding banners that said “Hitler was right. Jews in every country are the same. They are not humans.”

Güven Sak on the “The American Jewish lobby”/ Güven Sak’ın Amerikalı Yahudi lobisi söz konusu

From Radikal, a major left-wing paper published by the Doğan Yayın Holding, the largest media publishing company in Turkey, in a (fairly rambling) editorial about American court decisions taken to investigate those doing banking with Iran, the possibility of using the US dollar as a reserve currency, the global political effect of American congressional decisions:

“Let’s briefly introduce you to our third topic now. What sort of different paths could a Bill on the Armenian Genocide passed by the American Congress open, and be put to use within these circles? Is it political? It’s political. But the threat is that much more real. The American Congress, with support of the Armenian and Jewish lobbies,rejected a bill that would have allowed Turkish businessmen unrestricted investment in Indian communities. Did you know?

The bill in question, according to the Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/in-the-loop/post/turkey-native-americans-an-odd-pairing-in-a-failed-bill/2012/07/24/gJQAOmzF7W_blog.html) was criticised by the Congressional Armenian and Hellenic Caucuses. There is no official Jewish lobby in congress. Furthermore, one of the cosponsors of the bill (http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d112:HR02362:@@@P.) was Jewish.

The bill was rejected in favor of a different bill that allowed Native American groups to choose their own trading partners, including Turkey.

Serdar Turgut writes about who may be behind the ‘deep state’, saying that Israel benefits from all deep state activity, while talking about how Jews run the global business world. He says he knows this because he reads autobiographies:

Introduction/başlangıç

This blog has been started to track and record instances of Anti-semitism, both casual and blatant, in the Turkish press. As a foreign Jew living in Turkey, I’ve noticed more and more instances of the word ‘Jew’ being used in place of Israeli, and of mentions of Jewish control of the media, of the military, and of daily life in Turkey — without anyone calling them out on doing so. This site is intended to track that.
